Long, dark, wiry whole leaf, never broken into dust. The grade you can see in the box and taste in the glass.
A Ceylon base
Black tea from Sri Lanka, bold, dark, and full-bodied. This is the base that stands up to bergamot, cardamom, and rose.
Finished by hand
In San Francisco we finish every batch by hand with cold-pressed bergamot oil, then sift, fill and seal each pack ourselves.
134 teas tasted to find one
Four months of tasting: 44 suppliers and more than 134 teas. We chose the leaf that stays red and fragrant in the glass and never turns bitter, even after hours on the samovar.
About 45 glasses per 4 oz box
Brew it strong and dilute each glass to taste, the Persian way. A 4 oz box pours about 45 glasses.

۱Boil & Bloom
Bring fresh water to a full boil (212°F). Warm the pot, then add 8 g of whole leaf, about four teaspoons, for every two cups.
۲Steep Strong
Steep a full 8 minutes over the samovar. The brew should run deep red. This is the concentrated dam.
۳Pour & Dilute
Pour a measure of dam into the glass, then top with hot water to the strength each guest prefers.
۴Serve with Love
Offer with a sugar cube held on the tongue, dates, or a wedge of citrus. Then simply, stay.
No samovar? Steep 8 g in two cups at a full boil (212°F) for 8 minutes, then serve.

When does it ship?
Black Gold Persian Tea is on pre-order and ships from November 11, 2026.
Does it have caffeine?
Yes. It is a full black tea, so moderate caffeine, roughly half a cup of coffee. Steep it a touch lighter for the evening.
Can I add milk?
Beautifully: a splash of milk, or steam it into a London Fog. We also love it clear, Persian style, with a sugar cube on the tongue.
How should I store it?
Airtight, cool, and out of the light. Keep it away from the stove and the window and it will hold beautifully.
